What Senior Services Are Available?
A network of programs helps older adults stay healthy, independent, and connected.
Meals on Wheels
Federal/LocalHome-delivered meals and congregate dining at senior centers for adults 60+. Beyond nutrition, the daily visit provides a wellness check and social connection for homebound seniors.
Area Agency on Aging (AAA)
FederalYour local AAA is the gateway to all senior services — information and referral, benefits counseling, care coordination, in-home services, and caregiver support.
Medicare Counseling (SHIP)
FederalFree, unbiased Medicare counseling through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Trained counselors help with plan selection, enrollment, appeals, and billing issues.
In-Home Care & Personal Assistance
StateState-funded programs provide personal care aides, homemaker services, and home health aides to help seniors with bathing, dressing, meals, and housekeeping so they can age in place.
Caregiver Support
FederalThe National Family Caregiver Support Program provides respite care, counseling, support groups, training, and supplemental services for family members caring for older adults.
Elder Abuse Prevention
StateAdult Protective Services investigates abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. Long-term care ombudsman programs advocate for residents of nursing homes and assisted living.
Do I Qualify?
Most senior services are available to adults age 60 and older, with priority for those with the greatest economic and social need. Medicare counseling (SHIP) is free for all Medicare beneficiaries. Medicaid-funded home care requires income and functional eligibility. Caregiver support programs serve family members of any age who are caring for an older adult.

Call your Area Agency on Aging. Your AAA is the single best starting point. Find the phone number on your county page or call the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116.

Request an assessment. A care manager can assess your needs and connect you with the right combination of services — meals, transportation, home care, and more.

Enroll in Meals on Wheels. Call your local Meals on Wheels program or ask your AAA for a referral. Home-delivered meals typically start within days of enrollment.

Schedule Medicare counseling. Contact your SHIP counselor for free, one-on-one help understanding your Medicare options, especially during Open Enrollment (October 15 – December 7).

Report concerns. If you suspect elder abuse or neglect, contact Adult Protective Services through your county page or call the Eldercare Locator.
